China’s Private Cloud Market Reached ￥42.68 Billion in 2017
In 2017, under the vigorous promotion of relevant national policies, the private cloud market in China was further developed. Compared with the previous year, the traditional industries represented by industry, government affairs, and medical care have accelerated its cloud process. The private cloud market has received broad attention from more and more cloud service providers, system integrators, IDC service providers, users in various industries and new entrants.
To further understand and master the current status and future development of China’s private cloud, the China Institute of Information and Communications launched a survey of the state of China’s private cloud development in 2017-2018. A total of 3,915 effective samples were collected, covering nearly 80 cities from 22 provinces across the country, and released “China’s Private Cloud Development Survey Report (2018)“.

In 2017, the private cloud market in China reached 42.68 billion yuan, a yoy increase of 23.8%. It is expected that the private cloud market in China will maintain stable growth from 2018 to 2021.
Enterprise’s acceptance of private cloud is further improved
The proportion of companies that have already deployed private cloud has increased slightly. In 2017, the proportion of interviewed companies that have already deployed cloud computing continues to increase, which represents a yoy increase of 9.9%. Among them, the proportion of companies that have already deployed private cloud reached 13.4%, up 0.9% from the previous year.
Security and controllability remain the most important factors for companies to choose private cloud
Among the interviewed companies, because the good security and controllability, 67.2% and 51% respectively chose to use private cloud. Compared with the previous year, the degree of concern of enterprises for controllability has increased significantly (8.1%).
Enterprises’ recognition of open source private cloud management platforms continues to increase. OpenStack is the most popular open source cloud resource management platform
In 2017, 85.3% of companies tended to choose an open source private cloud management platform, a yoy increase of 2.1%. Among them, the proportion of companies choosing OpenStack reached 57.1%,a yoy increase of 2.9%; companies that chose CloudStack ranked second, accounting for 37.3%, a yoy increase of 0.3%.
Enterprise management system and office system are the main application scenarios of private cloud
The survey result shows that the proportions of enterprise management system and office system reached 48.1% and 47.8% respectively, higher than storage/backup (26.6%), communication system (23.2%), application development and testing (11.6%), and other application scenarios. The main application scenarios of private cloud are more used to support internal IT systems of enterprises.

Of the enterprises that have applied private cloud, 40.6% believe that the incomplete functions of operation and maintenance system is the main problem in the application of private cloud. Secondly, 28.5% of the companies stated that the private cloud’s basic functions are not complete enough to meet some of the actual needs.
Nearly 60% of companies will continue to invest in private cloud
Of the companies that have applied private cloud, 59.5% plan to increase their investment in private cloud, a slight increase from the previous year (58.3% in the previous year); the investment increase in private cloud from 17.1% of the companies will reach to more than 50%. The proportion of companies that are expected to reduce private cloud investment is only 10%, a decrease of nearly 4% from the previous year.
Cloud backup and cloud monitoring become private cloud security products with highest usage
Of the companies that have deployed private cloud, more than 40% choose to use cloud backup and cloud monitoring products. The usage rates of other products are anti-DDoS (32.6%), cloud host security (24.3%), cloud WAF (21.5%), firewall (21.5%), and vulnerability scanning (19.8%).
